The Road 03:44
Verse 1: Trying to change my whole life over night I hope you’ll stick around to see me do it right Almost 35 and still alone Looking for the one love to call my own But I’ve been chasing my dreams And I don’t see an end in sight Trying to change my whole life over night Verse 2: I feel that leaving here is the best thing for me To build a future that I’m trying to see Nearly 35 and still in town It’s all the little things that are keeping me around All my fears of failures and letdowns Hinder my desire to be free I feel that leaving here is the best thing for me BRIDGE Nothing here tying me down, no one here holding me back What comes around goes around; it’s best to stay on the right track So as not to be led astray than to let some fool throw away my dreams Don’t want that fool to be me CODA But I’ve been chasing my dreams And I don’t see an end in sight Trying to change my whole life over night But I’ll keep chasing my dreams Till the road calls my name tonight Now I am 35 and I’m finally getting it right Now that I am 35 and I finally got it right Got it right

VERSE 1: You’ve got that liquid cocaine all up inside your brain And I don’t see you coming down Those chemicals you’re on have made you far gone Will you ever come around? You claim that your advice came from Jesus Christ Again while you’re ten feet high And it’s made you insane you’ve become such a drain Now it’s time for me to say bye-bye CHORUS: You’ve got that chip on your shoulder You’ve got that monkey on your back It’s all making sense you going on the offense And it’s your desire to attack VERSE 2: You’ve got that potent brew stirring inside of you And the little pill makes you okay And you’ve done yourself harm needles stuck in your arm And you re-live the same old day You’ve got nothing to show wasted blow by blow We sit on the sides and cry You’re in a hazy smoke until you no longer choke Now is that any reason to die? REPEAT CHORUS X2 BRIDGE Those methamphetamines got you looking all lean And I don’t recognize your face CHORUS Outro And it’s your desire to attack Oh when will I get you back?

VERSE 1: I felt the coldness of your warm hand I got the message loud and clear I should’ve know we were doomed right at the start That in the beginning the end loomed near It was the second chance I couldn’t give but darlin’ it was given right to you Your second life was better than with mine I guess this idiot got his due CHORUS You fooled me one more time again Then you tried to put a different spin Altogether; we couldn’t weather out the storm VERSE 2: I thought I knew you for many years when really I don’t know you at all I gave you my heart, my everything All you’ve given me was your wall When you’re around all of your friends I see that smile that I used to know It’s a smile given by your new lover Like the one you wore for me long ago REPEAT CHORUS 2X BRIDGE I never thought I was bringing you down Then you became the talk of the town All the signs I know I couldn’t ignore When I thought you were worth fighting for REPEAT CHORUS 2X OUTRO You and I were more than friends But you fooled me once again

Verse 1: I am the way point, a simple pass-through Rest your head weary traveler and I shall mend you Fill up your empty belly and quench your dry thirst For you this is but a stop, for me but a curse I am the waystation, where loves wounded wander Who stumble in low and broken to leave even stronger Down that Only Lonely Old Road Verse 2: Am I a haven or a person? At times I feel I am both Is this my soul true purpose to heal without oath? I am a stop on a journey that will never be my own It’s begun to harden my heart and take a toll on these bones Come inside wayward wanderer the fire’s burning low Take what you need while it still belongs to me and let your troubles go Down that Only Lonely Old Road BRIDGE I shall remain here long after you leave With my heart fading fast and these tears on my sleeve I see you travel in a world so cold Making your way down that lonely old road CODA I am the way point, not a person nor soul Just a respite for drifters who are longing to be whole Goodbye traveler whose feet brush on the ground And who’ll I’ll never ever see coming around In for a penny out for a pound Never have I even met someone who was so profound Moving on, moving on… Down that Only Lonely Old Road (3x)

I left the gate to my heart unlatched REPEAT CHORUS Verse 4: You broke my heart. The story has come to an end I can’t speak your name but maybe our paths will cross again

Don’t want your heart to break I want you to know that I’m going with the flow And doing my best to let things be REPEAT VERSE 2 REPEAT CHORUS (VERSE 1 COMES IN AND SUNG AS A ROUND)

about

Though he has recorded many songs over the years, this is the first official album release Zach has ever done. Most of the songs are songs written over the last four years while residing in Nashville after moving from his home of Stover, Missouri. It's strictly a one-man band affair, save for a steel guitar on a couple of songs and percussion on another. There is a good flavor of the classic rock sound, mixed with country, folk, soul and even a hint of gospel.
